End-of-life Bill: A Fatal Inconsistency

Alliance VITA is launching a 9-episode digital campaign.

At the moment when the French Senate are examining the proposed bill on the end of life, Alliance VITA is today launching a 9-episode digital campaign denouncing the major contradictions in the text which aims to consider administered death as a care.

Under the deceitful term “medical assistance in dying”, the proposed bill being examined this week, is challenging the prohibition against killing and is generating a serious confusion between care and the lethal injection, in particular with respect to deep and continuous sedation until death. This is an ethical breach heavy in consequences for medical staff, patients and society as a whole.

Every day and until 28th January 2026, date of the solemn vote by the senate, Alliance VITA will be deciphering the major inconsistency of the bill: between care and killing, preventing and assisting suicide, promoting autonomy whilst demanding the involvement of a third party, defending the inclusion of the most fragile whilst proposing death as a possible solution for them.

Through this campaign, Alliance VITA is calling on the senators to refuse to make a biased choice and to suspend the legalisation of euthanasia and assisted suicide, to the advantage of truly human priorities: access to care, development of palliative care, suicide prevention and unconditional respect for human life.

According to Tugdual Derville, Alliance VITA’s spokesman, who gave a presentation to the Senate prior to the opening of the debates: “A society founded on fraternity should never respond to suffering by death but should endeavour to take care, to relieve and to accompany the most fragile of its members”.
