End-of-life law “We want healthcare, not euthanasia!”
Faced with the legislative offensive for the legalisation of euthanasia, Alliance VITA is launching a major nation-wide campaign “We want healthcare not euthanasia!”.
This multi-format and multi-channel campaign begins on 10th April and extends through till 12th May 2025.
Whereas the crisis in the health system is affecting the entire French population on a daily basis and is causing increasing concern but is being neglected by the public authorities, on 12th May, the MPs will begin to debate two bills in a public session at the National Assembly, one on palliative care and the other on the end of life, aimed at legalising assisted suicide and euthanasia.
During the coming weeks, our Alliance VITA teams will be active in some hundred towns, conducting information campaigns and leaflet distribution:
- Calling for an ambitious public policy for equal access to healthcare.
- Reaffirming our opposition to euthanasia and assisted suicide.
Euthanasia cannot be the response to the absence of a health policy!
For all those who consider it irresponsible and indecent to legalise death by prescription, Alliance VITA is proposing concrete action:
- By writing to MPs to warn about the risks which the so-called “assistance in dying” brings with it through the lack of adequate healthcare and support, and demanding that the priority be afforded to repairing the health system.
- By taking part in the actions taking place in their vicinity on 12th May to show their resolute and entire opposition to euthanasia and to demand proper healthcare accessible to all.
In the words of Tugdual Derville, the Alliance VITA spokesman:
“We are pleading for a policy for the prevention of despair and suicide which leaves nobody on the wayside. The priority must be to repair our health system, rather than encouraging the most vulnerable to self-exclusion. How can they understand the legalisation of assisted suicide and euthanasia – disguised as “assistance in dying” – whereas half of those who need palliative care have no access to it? it is for them that we are campaigning!”
