Need for Care, Not Euthanasia: Appeal to Senators
04/09/2025
Following the alert launched in July, the “Need for care” campaign has entered a new phase by calling for members of the public to appeal directly to their senators.
Irrespective of the outcome of the current political crisis, Alliance VITA remains fully committed against the legalisation of euthanasia and assisted suicide. The Bill relating to “Assistance in dying”, which is due to be discussed in the Senate from 7th October, constitutes a serious threat for social cohesion and for the inclusion of the most vulnerable.
Reinforced citizens’ mobilisation
The alert phase continues on social media and on the Alliance VITA web site, where faces and witness accounts all confirm the need for care and the rejection of euthanasia. Presently, the association is calling for all members of the public to write to their senator:
- To denounce the risk that the so-called “assistance in dying” be adopted by default, due to the lack of suitable care and accompaniment;
- To demand that priority be applied to repairing the health system and increasing the support for carers and patients.
The Care, means assistance for living
As stated by Tugdual Derville, the spokesman for Alliance VITA, on 12th May at the National Assembly:
“Care, means assistance for living, till the end of life. It consists of relief and appeasement, without therapeutic obstinacy, and without euthanasia.”
Call for action
Alliance VITA invites all those who reject “death by prescription” to mobilise now.
